Snow Advisory Essex County has called a Snow Emergency because of the weather forecasting a blizzard that will bring over a foot of snow. As a matter of public safety, motorists are asked to avoid parking their vehicles on county roadways from Monday, January 26th at 4PM to Wednesday, January 28th at 9AM so Public Works crews can remove snow from curb to curb and spread salt. We encourage residents to remain safe during these upcoming snow events and only travel if it is absolutely necessary.
Snow Closings Because of the blizzard: Turtle Back Zoo and Codey Arena are closed on Monday, January 26th and Tuesday, January 27th. All senior buildings and congregate meal sites in the parks closed at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 26th and will be closed on Tuesday, January 27th and Wednesday, January 28th. All park roads will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, January 26th and will be closed on Tuesday, January 27th. Essex County Special Transportation System buses stopped running at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 26th and will not operate on Tuesday, January 27th. The Essex County WAVE Transportation Service will stop running at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 26th. JARC buses will maintain their 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. pick up schedules on Monday, January 26th unless NJ Transit cancels its services. Night Owl transportation services are cancelled on Monday, January 26th. On Tuesday, January 27th, WAVE and JARC services are cancelled; a determination on Night Owl services will be made at a later time.
Essex County Code Blue Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced the Essex County’s Code Blue procedures will be in effect starting Monday, January 26th at 4 p.m. to Monday, February 2nd at 9 a.m. A list of available warming stations and shelters is available by clicking here or dialing 2-1-1.
